Move it up to where the braid is thicker, or onto a tighter section. The tighter the hair, the better it holds.

Will beads work on fine or short hair?

Totally. Work them onto smaller sections or twists and they'll hold just fine.

How many beads should I use?

One makes a statement. A few down a braid makes it a whole look.
